Coming Soon: Porsche 917 – The Film

Porsche 917 – The Film

The fabulous 12-cylinder 917 was the key to Porsche’s first overall victory at Le Mans in 1970. It went on to dominate the World Championship for Makes and later, triumphed again, this time in 1973 in the Can-Am series with up to 1,000 bhp,. The Porsche 917 is probably the most famous racing car in history and is surrounded by various myths and legends.

Helmut Deimel has now created a cinematic monument to this remarkable sports car from Zuffenhausen. In 82 minutes of screen time, he tells the whole story of the car, from its development and presentation 1969 right through its years racing in the World Championship, its leading role in the Le Mans film, plus its exploits in Can-Am and in Europe at the Interserie. All these led eventually to Mark Donohue’s record-breaking drive at Talladega Speedway in 1975 where he recorded a lap at 221.61 mph.

In addition to extensive historic footage, the film contains interviews with protagonists such as Kurt Ahrens, Richard Attwood, Derek Bell, Vic Elford, Peter Falk, Hans Herrmann, Willi Kauhsen, Gijs van Lennep, Herbert Linge, Dr Helmut Marko, Hans Mezger, Ferdinand Piëch, and many more.

Released as part of the Edition Porsche Museum, the film is not just available as a DVD, but also in a Premium Edition with a stunning sixty-page illustrated book in maxi format (11″x11″).

October 17, 2024 Update:

A rather quiet week on the new model side. Most of this week’s deliveries have been new and restocked book titles including David Tremayne’s latest release, a comprehensive look at the ‘one and done’ Brawn BGP 001/02 that Jenson Button drove to the Formula One World Championship in 2009.

We were sad to hear of the passing of Augie Pabst at age 90 last week. Augie was one of the best American road racers of his generation and a fine gentleman. Thirty plus years ago we commissioned Michael Turner to do a painting of Augie in the legendary Meister Brauser Scarab as part of our Michael and Graham Turner 1991 North American Exhibition held at Road America and The Motorsport Collector.

After the Exhibition, we published a Limited Edition (200) print of Turner’s painting of Augie’s 1959 Meadowdale winning Scarab. A few of these prints, signed by Augie Pabst and Michael Turner are still available from our archives. Click HERE for information.

Pikes Peak Alpine A110 GT4 Evo by Spark Model

1/18 & 1/43 Spark Model

FUTURE RELEASE:

MUST RESERVE BY WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 30, 2024

“Alpine made its historic debut at the 2023 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, marking its first competition on American soil with the Alpine A110 GT4 Evo. The project, led by engineer François Letort and supported by longtime partner Signatech, transformed the A110 GT4 Evo into a contender for one of the world’s most demanding races. The team borrowed suspension and brakes from their championship-winning A110 Rally R-GT to navigate the notoriously bumpy Pikes Peak course. Despite being one of the least powerful cars in its class, the A110’s nimble handling, thanks to its perfect balance of power and aerodynamics, proved vital on the 19.93 km climb with its 156 turns.

Driver Raphaël Astier, no stranger to Pikes Peak, pushed the Alpine to a stunning 9:17.412 finish, securing 3rd place overall. The Alpine was the second-fastest combustion-powered car, an impressive feat for a machine built in under six months and completed just weeks before the race”
