Legends of the Mille Miglia

by Colin Carter. History was made on May 1st, 1955 when Stirling Moss won the 1000 mile Mille Miglia (from Brescia to Rome and back), aboard his Mercedes Benz 300SLR. At his side was motor racing writer and navigator Dennis 'Jenks' Jenkinson who, immediately after the race, wrote a detailed 4,500 word story on the race, complete with full results, from his hotel room. The duo covered the course at an average speed of nearly 98 mph - a record that has never been broken.
